Ecology / Environment

Ecology is about “using, preserving and strengthening society’s resources so that ecological processes, on which life is dependent, are maintained, and the overall quality of life, now and in the future, can be increased”.

Ecology and Environment are the core of sustainable development.

The challenges are related to developing ways to use the environmental resources that underpin the economy in such a way that maintains and, if possible, improves their range, variety and quality, while utilizing these resources to develop business and create jobs.

Rural people cook traditional food on open fire inside their kitchen. All family members, but especially women and girls, are exposed to dangerous levels of smoke and pollution, which contribute to severe breathing and health problems and early blindness. Often, the children will spend a significant part of their time gathering firewood, instead of going to school. The combustion of so much wood contributes to deforestation and global warming.

Our work aims to create a sustainable change by giving Socio-economic empowerment to local communities to raise awareness of ecology, the environment, climate change and waste management. Our programs and projects strive to include all these objectives and considerations in every part of the decision-making process.

The activities include:

Promotion of environmental protection and environmental improvement Tree planting and restoration
Groups in society have identified restoration of trees as a high priority for climate control, soil erosion and creating shaded areas.

Clean Water Systems
Helps every community in the most remote village areas access to clean and reliable drinking water sources. This is one of the most effective ways to improve local quality of life and reduce child mortality.

Organic Sanitation
Composting and latrines can be an effective solution to the problem of untreated human waste. Firewood stoves – support installation of wood saving stoves.

Green Jobs
Generating income opportunities by leveraging climate change incentives to develop robust waste management infrastructure and recycling systems.

Bioenergy
Establishing a comprehensive infrastructure for producing recycled energy from food and agricultural waste.

JLOF works to improve opportunities for disadvantaged, vulnerable communities.
